No one’s combined glam and orchestra this flawlessly since – well, Patrick Wolf’s last record, 2009’s The Bachelor. From the follow-up, coming in May 2011, is this irresistible first single “Time of My Life”. It’s got sweeping strings, declarative piano, handclaps and quick drums, but it’s all anchored by Wolf’s sultry voice, insisting on better times to come. Over wide-open violin, Wolf declares “Happy without you” like he doesn’t entirely believe it, but has to. You know the feeling. Give it a listen.
“Time of My Life” will be out digitally on December 6.
