Spank Rock’s new record is actually called Everything is Boring and Everyone is a Fucking Liar, but, based on tracks like “Nasty,” you might be wrong if you were expecting anything more emotive than a dance record. Spank Rock knows his strengths, but you might also be wrong if you expect those strengths lie preliminarily in typical club songs.
“Nasty” is flawless sweaty rave material complete with truly title-appropriate lyrics, but that production is truly unreal – dubby, echo-y bass drones, weird vocal loops, and sissy bounce snares and claps blend together with super-catchy synth lines. And Big Freedia’s powerhouse appearance toward the end will hopefully be the star-making thrust you’ve been waiting for since you first heard “Azz Everywhere.” Take a listen.
