Nika Rosa Danilova, better know as the reigning priestess of her own unique brand of electro-goth under her pseudonym Zola Jesus, will have dropped three records in two years with the release of Conatus, all before her 23rd birthday. No surprise to those of us who have been following Danilova’s rapidly mutating and constantly brilliant work for a while – it’s awesome. So is bonus track “Days Grow Older,” a feverish dreamscape of a song built on piano chords that gather like dark clouds, tribal percussion, and Danilova’s chillingly beautiful, truly unreal howl.
