Here is the newest from Ra Ra Riot’s forthcoming LP, The Orchard (which is a whole lot of fun, by the way), due out August 24 on Barsuk Records. Hold on to your frail indie hearts as I say this; but “Too Dramatic”, a bouncy write-off of overtly dramatic girlfriends, sounds like it’s influenced equally by the Dirty Projectors’ pop-ier material and Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij.
Of course that’s not really a far stretch is it? Ra Ra Riot’s frontman Wes Miles and Vampire Weekend’s multi-instrumentalist and producer/composure joined forces to bring us Discovery, and the Dirty Projectors’ Angel Deradoorian lent her vocal acrobatic abilities on the sexually ambiguous Discovery track “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend”. But instead of Discovery’s erratic sect of experimental electrop0p, or even whatever Contra is, “Too Dramatic” and most of The Orchard is easily digestible and highly infectious indie-pop. When Ra Ra broke I had a hard time selling them on Each Year and Dying Is Fine. I missed The Rhumb Line, but sounds like the orchard will be an easy sell, because it sounds great!
Stop with your stupid motherfucking twitters and comment on the articles at hand like a normal person. Once again, fuck you.
