Throwback time! Some Radiohead demos hit the web today, but they’re not King of Limbs outtakes or leaked early versions of upcoming songs – in fact, they’re just a pinch earlier than that.
“Everybody Knows” and “Girl (in a Purple Dress)” are cuts from back when Radiohead were called On A Friday, before guitarist Jonny Greenwood brought his atmospheric washes to the table – in short, they’re from 1986. And they sort of sound like it – the only thing that really identifies them as Radiohead songs is Thom Yorke’s distinctive voice, elsewhere the saxophone wails and prominent piano take the song into FM-radio territory that will likely throw you off. “Everybody Knows” is a little more in the vein of the Radiohead you know, but both are definitely worth a listen, even for non-‘heads (pun intended).
