In the universe of surprising collaborations lately, don’t sleep on one of the strangest and best – Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke produced a track unfortunately called “Retarded Fren” for DOOM (the MC previously known as MF DOOM), and it’s really unexpectedly awesome.

Greenwood and Yorke craft a beat that reads like an updated hip-hop version of “The Hall of the Mountain King,” what with its slouching bass, stuttering drum machine, and echo-y fingerplucked strings. Meanwhile, never upstaged by that super-complex beat, DOOM delivers a deft, supple series of verses. Check it out.
