In awful band name and awesome music news, Rocket Juice & The Moon (yes), the band composed of supergroup king Damon Albarn (of Blur, Gorrilaz and, um, several supergroups), Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea, and drummer Tony Allen (who’s played with Fela Kuti among others), are gearing up to release a debut record in March, and they’ve released a sample track that features Neo-Soul queen Erykah Badu.
“Hey Shooter” sounds like the guys and girl took a survey pop music history course and decided to cram in most of the cool things they heard – wobbly, jazzy bass right up front, funk drums, Doors-style epic keyboard solos, reggae-inspired horns, Badu’s characteristic soul croon… surprisingly, the final product doesn’t sound overwhelmingly busy, rather, inspired and fascinating. Rocket Juice and the Moon is out March 27.
