Turns out Tame Impala’s “Apocalypse Dreams,” as much as we loved it, wasn’t the first single from the band’s upcoming Lonerism – that title belongs to new leak “Elephant.” It’s fitting – not only does “Elephant” clock in at a (comparatively manageable) three-and-a-half minutes, it’s also a truly spectacular track, with driving, bass-heavy bookends that sound almost like listening to classic punk on warped vinyl, and a deliriously psychedelic b-section where heavily distorted warring synth and guitar riffs compete for attention. Group shouts, epic drum fills, the catchiest bassline ever – yep, we can’t wait another second for this record. Lonerism drops October 5th.
