Canada’s most renowned musical twins Tegan and Sara have always had an ear for pop textures, even in their most freak-folky releases (think the hyper-catchy guitar riff and sharp drums on 2004’s “Walking with a Ghost”), so the fact that their new single, “Closer,” from an as-yet-untitled record set for release in January, is a totally unabashed, fist-pumping, shimmering bubblegum pop anthem shouldn’t really surprise you. The sisters’ trademark ear for catchy, unorthodox melodies hasn’t gone anywhere, and neither have their snappy harmonies, but you’ll also find a lot of synth bells, whistling, phasers… It’s new, but there’s a lot to like. Check it out and stay tuned for album news.
