Did you realize that Philly hip-hop eight-piece The Roots are on their thirteenth album since 1993? Well, they are – Undun will drop December 6th – and they’re still going strong. Our first taste of Undun is “Make My,” a toe-tapping slow jam featuring Mississippi rapper and producer Big K.R.I.T.
It’s a great track – the bobbing bass line and heavily processed synth groove that make up the extended outro remind us of really classic rap, while K.R.I.T.’s butter-smooth verses are very much, ehm, rooted in the here and now. It all adds together into a perfect Roots song: catchy, classy, both nodding to the past and paving the road to the future of their genre.
