Wild Beasts are rewarding their fans this holiday season with an unused cut from their Smother recording sessions, “Stray.” The track may not have wound up on the record, but that doesn’t mean it’s a throwaway – frontman Hayden Thorpe’s vocals are customarily sublime over the rest of the band’s ambient, percolating aura, and the whole thing makes you feel like you’re lost at sea or in a snowstorm, buoyed up by its constant bass drum pulse but with your way out concealed by the whirling repetition of that guitar line. Check it out.
