“Pretty Boy” is a new single from the Montreal electro-pop outfit Young Galaxy, and it doubles as the opening track on Ultramarine, their second record produced by prolific Swedish musician and producer Dan Lissvik. Fittingly, it has as much of a balearic tinge – what with those percolating synthy loops, maximalist canned strings, and yearning but distant vocals from frontwoman Catherine McCandless as she meditates on her memories of a former companion – as a compelling, ’80s-indebted pulse reminiscent of something off a John Hughes soundtrack. Check it out – Ultramarine is out April 23, and a remix of this track by Peaking Lights will drop in time for you to give or receive it on a Valentine’s mixtape.
