This unofficial music video for ‘Kettering,’ the heart-wrenching opener on The Antlers’ critically acclaimed debut Hospice, is made up entirely of meticulously selected favorite photographs off random fan Dan Sully’s flickr photostream. This simple idea is executed masterfully and artistically to stunning, haunting effect.
Instead of the conventional attention-deficit fast cuts and mindless strobe-light technical humdrum in today’s commercial music videos, Sully makes something slow and elegant out of a series of washed-out photographs of people in the wilderness, internal and external. Here the images fit the shape of the song down to its slightest contour of desolation and longing.
Lovers and gentleman, this is what video art looks like in the remix age.
