Awwww… It's unfortunate that the author of this post is miopic in his understanding of how bands influence bands and that “reinvention” by its very definition depends on someone else's originality. Though I would never have used “reinvention” to describe The Big Pink. That being said, good for The Big Pink for extending the genre to another generation that, hopefully, this author doesn't represent. From what I've heard of The Big Pink, they sound great, and if they didn't sound SOO much like everyone who came before them, it would be much easier to avoid comparisons and let them stand on their own. But they are just another part of the bark on a branch of this genre tree.

I think it's a brilliant record, unquestionably. But it is a bit daft to totally dismiss its forebears. I don't think placing it in context necessarily diminishes what a great job they did.

That would make you 2 years old. Bweave – you're right, I'm just trying to judge them outside of those comparisons. Obviously there is a lot of influence but influence is not a definition.

BWeave, dude their cool. I simply stated there's nothing new here, unless you grew up internet era. In fact its rather generic shoegaze action with at least one big “alt -rock” hit. Reverb, sleepy and understated.

My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, were all amazing bands thats set trends, Big Pink simply have a cool record collection that started waaaaaaaaay before the internet era. Nothing here is revolutionary by any standard. They have a shot with their big song “Domines” of being endlessly played on mainstream alt rock radio.
