Great post! I usually don't care much about the opening act. I just saw Nine Inch Nails yesterday and Tom Morello's new band Street Sweeper Social Club opened and they were horrible. A couple of years ago I went to see Band of Horses and The Drones opened for them. I actually enjoyed them more than Band of Horses. It really could go either way with opening bands.

I found this very interesting and im not in a band. I just go to see lots of them and some openers are better than the headliners. Also occasionally for local shows i find im more interested in the opening band i havent seen before rather than the local headliner whos been around quite a bit lately.

all very true, but i think the most relevant thing is that the vast majority of people buy a ticket to see the headliner...and any good support is a bonus.

"You’re opening for Kid Rock? You must be strapped for cash!" - Great stuff. Good writing as usual but not the most interesting topic since most of us aren't in bands. You should do some writing on illegal downloading and why artists are actually taking profit of it despite what record labels say next time.
