Last night, Lupe Fiasco unveiled "Around My Way," the Pete Rock sampling first single from his new album, wait for it, Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1. Lupe fans have been waiting for a sequel to the MC's damn near classic debut album Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor for years, and it looks like they'll finally get it on September 25th. Listen to the first single below; we'll update this space when more information is available:
Lupe Fiasco: "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)"
If you're into hip hop drama, this is what Pete Rock said about Lupe's sample: "No disrespect to Lupe Fiasco and I like him alot [sic] but TROY should be left alone. Feel so violated, the beat is next to my heart and was made outta anguish and pain. When it's like that it should not be touched by no one." Understandable. And here's Lupe's rebuttal: “All the credit goes to my partner and manager Chill, he just felt like it was time to bring back a joint, go back and take one of the iconic records of Hip Hop and put a new spin on it and put it back out there."
