If you know of any other songs inspired by dreams about eleventh century saints becoming MTV VJ’s, please let me know, because this one kick ass. Devendra Banhart tells the tale of his Catholic muse (whose Wiki entry is worth a read) in “Für Hildegard von Bingen,” the first single for his upcoming album, Mala. It’s his first record since 2009, and takes its name from an Eastern European word for endearment. The album comes out March 22. Listen to the track at Pitchfork.

“Now she’s leaving congregation / the abbey’s suffocation / she’s been dreaming revocation / from the nasty regulations / now she’s working at the station / as a VJ on rotation”

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
