Frank Ocean Playing SNL and VMAs

Frank Ocean had a great couple of weeks earlier his summer when his major label début channel ORANGE was met with universal critical acclaim and outsold mainstream R&B stalwarts like Usher and Chris Brown. He also provided one most chilling few minutes of late night TV we’ve seen all year. Next month, Frank Ocean will have a pop cultural resurgence with two major TV appearances on the books.

On September 6, Ocean will officially thank MTV for his multiple VMA nominations with a live performance at the awards ceremony. In recent years, the annual celebration has been a platform for artists to launch successful tangents in their career (see: Jay-Z, Lady Gaga, T.I., Florence + The Machine). We’re hoping for an epic Kanye-at-Coachella style performance of “Pyramids,” but that’s just us.

On September 15, Ocean will return to the silver screen as the musical guest on the season premiere of Saturday Night Live, hosted by comedy tycoon Seth MacFarlane (who is also hot off a massively successful summer, thanks to his popular stuffed animal raunch comedy Ted).

So mark your calendars!

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
