SATURDAY 8/4
1:00 – 1:45pm: FIDLAR @ Google Play
Be sure to rest up before starting your Saturday at FIDLAR’s set. Power-garage meets fuzzed-up punk with running, split-second beats. 1:00pm isn’t too early to shout along or join the sure-to-be-present mosh pit.
FIDLAR – “No Waves”
2:15 – 3:00pm: Givers @ Google Play
This is probably one of the most difficult decisions of the day with conflicts between Delta Spirit, Givers, Star Slinger and Aloe Blacc. However, the highly energetic quintet hailing from Louisiana know how to give their all in a live setting, dancing and jumping included. If you want to chill out to some slower soul instead, head over to the Red Bull Soundstage to catch Aloe Blacc’s smooth vocals.
Givers – “Up, Up, Up”
3:00 – 4:00pm: Neon Indian @ Sony
Another tough decision, we opted for Neon Indian over Chairlift over at the Google Play stage. While both have pretty infectious tunes, Neon Indian’s live sets are pretty cool thing to witness as the members throw themselves into the music. If you’d rather stay at the Google Play stage for Chairlift, Caroline Polachek can pull some weird dance moves too.
Neon Indian – “Polish Girl”
4:15 – 5:15pm: Alabama Shakes @ Bud Light
Brittany Howard of Alabama Shakes delivers probably the most passionate and soulful vocals of the year on the group’s debut Boys & Girls. You can almost hear the tears in the her powerful crooning. Be sure to be up front to catch this breakout group in action.
Alabama Shakes – “You Ain’t Alone”
5:00 – 6:00pm: tUnE-yArDs @ Sony
Indie royalty Merrill Garbus is probably a universal favorite and jaw-dropping to watch live. Extensive looping, sampling and layering are just the beginning. What’s more amazing is Garbus’ ability to warp her voice into the widest arrangement of timbres. A not to miss set.
tUnE-yArDs – “Sunlight”
6:00 – 7:00pm: The Weeknd @ Red Bull Soundstage
Abel Tesfaye of The Weeknd has come a long way since the anonymous YouTube uploads that started his career. Jazz-tinged R&B with dreamy vocals make for laid-back set to sway to. If you want some heavier jams in a different kind of sway, head over to the Google Play stage to catch Washed Out dish out cuts from 2011′s Within and Without.
The Weeknd – “The Morning”
7:15 – 8:15pm: Twin Shadow @ Google Play
New wave king George Lewis, Jr. can stir up quite a dance with jumpy live sets galore. Look out for cuts from his sophomore release Confess and fizzy tracks from 2010′s Forget.
Twin Shadow – “Slow”
8:45 – 10:00pm: Santigold @ Perry’s
End Saturday off right with hard-hitting, pulsing beats and on-point vocals from Santigold. If you’re the adventurous kind, get up close because she’s been letting her fans dance onstage at various shows recently. Just hope for signature cuts from her pre-name-change 2008 debut.
Santigold – “Creator”
