M83 will be scoring their first film, a big budget sci-fi flick from Tron: Legacy helmer Joseph Kosinski, called Oblivion, starring Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman and Game of Thrones‘ Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. The outer-space drama will center around Cruise’s Jack Harper, a veteran soldier sent back to earth to deal with the aftermath of a war with a bellicose alien race.

“I’m not afraid to do my first soundtrack on a big Hollywood movie, with a big budget and a lot of pressure… I like challenges and it excites me more than frightens me,” M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez told the Playlist in a feature.

“I’m always trying to push myself and I try to do it with my studio albums, and now this is a new adventure, so I’m going to push myself even harder, and try to surprise people and move people with my music,” Gonzalez said, adding: “My vision is really to have a combination of very electronic moments, very M83, and sometimes merge into something more soundtrack-y, but my kind of soundtracks.”

One can only hope the soundtrack sounds something like “Intro” from last year’s Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming.
