Foals broke their pretty lengthy silence today with this new single “Inhaler” and news of a new record, Holy Fire, coming in February. We’ve always loved the band’s taste for interpreting these kraut-y, math-y tropes – broken time signatures, cutting guitar, massive drones – in a way that makes you think seriously distorted post-apocalyptic pop, and “Inhaler” is no exception.

Put headphones on and turn it up – frontman Yannis Philippakis’ vocals are intensely front-and-center; he shouts “I can’t get enough space” over the most maximalist, eardrum-shattering beautiful noise we’ve heard in a long, long time, like he’s clearing room for himself with the biggest explosion he could put together on short notice. Check out the charmingly NSFW video too.

Holy Fire is out February 11.

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
