On their breakout album Weathervanes, New York’s Freelance Whales were perhaps unfairly described as your little sister’s Arcade Fire, and that’s a backhanded compliment the band looks to shake off on their recently announced second album, Diluvia. Proving your worth is something all sophomore bands have to go through, some with more difficulty than others (just ask Passion Pit), but with first single “Locked Out,” Freelance Whales show that they’ve perked their ears up to their surroundings and are heading in an interesting direction.
