“Cholla” is the high-octane first official single from the Joy Formidable, the Welsh rock trio who broke out early last year after the release of their raucous, high-energy debut record The Big Roar – it’s off of their upcoming second album, Wolf’s Law. Appropriately, it’s a truly relentless song, with a seriously formidable driving riff that only lets up over three and a half minutes for a short interlude that sounds like plunging underwater. Frontwoman Ritzy Bryan’s vocals straddle a compelling line between ethereal and forceful, and she more than holds her own against her and her bandmates’ sonic assault. Wolf’s Law will likely drop January of next year – stay tuned.
