Youth Lagoon wasted no time after announcing Wondrous Bughouse to release its first single, the customarily epic “Dropla,” which clocks in at six minutes of childlike toy piano, xylophone, and collages of found sounds. It only takes Trevor Powers and company approximately thirty seconds to get at the heart of the track and possibly of his music in general: “You’ll never die, you’ll never die, you’ll never die,” goes the chorus. What with that sublime buildup about two minutes, “Dropla” is the type of song that makes you believe it. The record’s out March 5th – we’ll keep you posted.

In related news, Youth Lagoon will open for The National at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on June 5th. #ArenaStatus

Charlotte Aitchison’s second LP is a warhead, a sonic sour bomb that conceals sneering attitude and caustic kiss-offs beneath an initially shimmering pop sheen.
