The Weeknd’s House of Balloons mixtape was one of 2011’s most pleasant surprises, not to mention one of the most accomplished contemporary R&B release in years. So it gives me great pleasure to report that the Weeknd have revealed plans to release a second and third mixtape in 2011, titled Thursday and Echoes of Silence, respectively. The former will be released sometime this summer (with a taster single coming “sooner than later”) and the latter will drop sometime in the fall.

The duo have also been seen in the studio with the man that turned us all onto The Weeknd in the first place, Drake. The famed MC has been working with some interesting left-field mainstreamers lately, including the xx beatsmith Jamie xx and melodramatic UK songstress Florence + The Machine.
