An American comedic institution, Daily Show host Jon Stewart is going dramatic for his directorial debut, Rosewater. The film tells the true story of Iranian/Canadian journalist Maziar Bahari (played by Gael Garcia Bernal), who was arrested after his coverage of the 2009 election protests in Iran, and spent 118 days in jail where he was brutally interrogated, and forced to confess to a number of crimes. In other words, a story that Stewart would cover on his comedy show, though he's obviously checking his trademark wit and sense of irony at the door and approaching Bahari's story with reverence.
The first trailer for the project has finally landed and we're officially on board:
Rosewater opens November 7 and the world premiere is going down at the Telluride Film Festival this weekend.
