Zola Jesus covers Rihanna “Diamonds”

Zola Jesus just released this version of Rihanna’s excellent new single “Diamonds” that she apparently decided to cover after tons of pressure (“I hear this a lot,” she tweeted at a fan who asked that she do a version of the track) – and we’re really glad she gave in. Zola’s music has always had an unabashed pop sensibility – filtered, admittedly, through a thick gothy, industrial haze – so Rihanna’s soaring chorus and those skittering electronic textures sound comfortably at home in her hands. We’re still waiting for a new record from Zola, but this’ll hold us over in the meantime.
