Sia – Breathe Me

Don’t call this a “Throwback Thursday” post.

YouTube Preview Image
“Breathe Me” scored my favorite few minutes of premium cable television ever.

Today I’m remembering the power of the song. Over the years, I’ve talked about Sia’s “Breathe Me” quite a bit and everyone’s experiences with the song seem to differ from person to person. It’s one of my favorite songs to talk about for this very reason and it remains today, one of my favorite songs of all time.

Sia – Breathe Me

I’m sure you already guessed that I’d ask… what are you feelings towards “Breathe Me”?

Midnight Juggernauts – This New Technology (Memory Tapes Remix)

Midnight Juggernauts This New Technology (Memory Tapes Remix) mp3Memory Tapes remixes label mates Midnight Juggernauts’ new single “This New Technology” into this pulsating, synth monster. The remix is very different from anything we heard on Memory Tapes’ debut album, Seek Magic.

In fact, if it wasn’t for Dayve Hawk trying to snag as much press as he possibly can for Memory Tapes, this remix would have probably been released under the more fitting, Weird Tapes moniker. Either way we’ve got ourselves a great remix for the weekend. Continue reading →

Chiddy Bang – All Things Go, PMA Premiere

Chiddy Bang All Things Go, PMA Premiere listenChiddy Bang are hitting the scene hard with their upcoming mixtape, The Swelly Express, due 10/29. PMA is proud to premiere another cut off the mixtape called “All Things Go.”

Chiddy Bang describe The Swelly Express as the true story of a journey of two college kids breaking into the “music biz.” The mixtapes’ lyrics and music will bare this journey in mind, which is clearly evident in both “Decline” and especially “All Things Go.”

Sample-based hip-hop has always been my favorite (Kanye West, most Jay-Z, A Kid Named Cudi) and Xaphoon Jones has always had an ear for implementing an “indie” sample buried withing scathing bass. “All Things Go” samples Sufjan Steven’s “Chicago” — one of my personal favorite songs of all time. Ke$ha – Tik Tok

Ke$ha Tik Tok listen
I am up this late (despite having to catch an early flight in the morning) only because this song is stuck in my head. When I listen to it to get it out of my head, I just want to listen to it more! Ke$ha isn’t bringing anything new to the table, per se, but I think her Katy Perry meets Lady GaGa meets Uffie ‘tude and tunes are a force to be reckoned with in the monde d’pop. “TiK ToK”* (yeah with the T’s and K’s capitalized), her debut single might just take over the world. I really wouldn’t mind one bit.

Buy it from iTunes

*formerly known as “P. Diddy”

Freelance Whales – Location

Freelance Whales Location listenPMA has already introduced you to Freelance Whales with the epic “Generator” songs (mirroring Arcade Fire’s “Neighborhood” series, perhaps?). Continuing to hype up this melodic, orchestral band, we present you with “Location,” another dreamy cut of of their debut album, Weathervanes.

While not quite as powerful as the two “Generator” tracks, “Location” features more of the same in the best way possible- banjo,  soothing harmonies (resembling One For The Team), and a quiet, memorable chorus powered with a gospel backdrop of “ohs.” And at 4:05, the full potential of Freelance Whales is reached as the instruments cut out in the type of haunting musical moment that lets you know when a band is the real deal.

Again, “Location” isn’t incredible, or unmatched, but it demonstrates true potential for an up-and-coming band that will certainly be making waves as their album makes the rounds.

Fanfarlo – Ghosts

Fanfarlo Ghosts listenFanfarlo’s debut album was released in the first quarter of 2009, but sadly I never gave their album the repeated listens it deserved. Looking back at it now, Fanfarlo have a distinct quality about them that remind me of a British Arcade Fire, which may have been why I shelved the great Reservoir prematurely.

Just minutes into the album, plays “Ghosts,” my favorite song of theirs. Carefully orchestrated between Neon Bible’s God-fearing art-rock and Beirut’s melancholic folk, “Ghosts” takes off with a spark of prowess and individuality, still.

Though I can name a handful of songs within the “Ghosts”-soundscape, that came before Reservoir, very few hit the mark as well as “Ghosts.” In a year without an Arcade Fire release, I’d gladly give their cool little cousins a listen.
