ARCADE FIRE THE SUBURBS DELUXE EDITION

Like every other album that has won the Grammy for Album of the Year (totally unverified but probably, right?), on August 2nd a Deluxe Edition of Arcade Fire'sThe Suburbs will be released. And it comes with some goodies they hope will entice fans to purchase the album again, or at least seduce new buyers.

Back in May we heard two new songs that didn't make The Suburbs - and for good reason. They were mainly dull and presented themes and ideas that were better executed on the songs that made the album. Luckily, this special re-release comes with a couple of other party favors: a pretty wicked extended self-remix of "Ready To Start" (co-produced by Bjork and Prodigy beatmaster Damian Taylor) and an early demo version of "Sprawl I".

I know not every album can have outrageously great, possibly-better-than-the-album-tracks b-sides, so these legitimately interesting alternative takes on now familiar songs is what makes this sort of record label cash cow gimmick worth it.
