Kidnap Kid is more than just a pretty face. The Sheffield-cum-London producer spent part of last year touring with (and remixing) legitimate UK dance scene phenoms Disclosure and Rudimental, after all.
But the Kid's raising the stakes with his recently released double single, "Stronger" b/w "Like You Used To. (Black Butter is on a winning streak at the moment, aren't they?) Front side track, "Stronger" is anchored around a club-ready 4/4 beat, while staying just at the periphery of being a true dance floor filler the way, say, the latest Gorgon City singles have been. No, instead "Stronger" is a bit ponderous, a bit cosmic, while proudly displaying Kidnap Kid's canny knack for catchy synth lines and enchanting vocal samples.
On the flip side you'll find "Like You Used To," which is what we imagine an pure r&b song produced by Disclosure would sound like - but with an ample dose of Kidnap Kid's signature sense of atmosphere and space. "Stronger" is the more sonically adventurous of the two, but it isn't every day that you hear a pop song as well-constructed as "Like You Used To."
