Hundred Waters' excruciating "Down from the Rafters" is one of my favorite songs of 2014 despite the fact that I want to cry whenever I listen to it, so I'm psyched that they've just announced a remix EP of versions of the track that might be a little less painful. Our first taste is by the Field, who's shaped the band's layered, maximal, yearning sounds into one of his classic chilly, undulating soundscapes. Frontwoman Nicole Miglis's haunting lyrics are nowhere to be found, except for a soft, wordless vocal pattern the Field uses more as texture. It's a beautiful, chilling listen - check it out. The rest of the remix EP is out October 16th and will feature remixes from Huxley and Tim Hecker, too.
It's somewhat less of an emotional bulldozer than the real thing.
