Kendrick Lamar’s one of the rap game’s hottest rising stars right now – guesting all over Ab-Soul’s super-hyped Control System, recording tracks for video games, hanging with Lady Gaga at Pitchfork Festival – and all before he releases his major label debut. Now he’s gearing up for good kid, m.A.A.d. city (yes), his "debut" record, and dropping sample track “Swimming Pools (Drank)."
It’s a dark, brooding film-noir of a track (even down to its lyrical subject matter), with seriously incredible verses from Lamar – we love when he addresses himself in the third person – and an electrifying, hypnotic beat from T-Minus. The record’s out October 2 – if the rest of it’s anything as good as this, we’ll be in for one of the best hip-hop records of the year. Check it out.
