The BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix is pretty much always a guaranteed good time, with some of the most notable dance and electronic producers appearing, always accompanied by a 2-hour set of chock-full of audio goodness. It's a rite of passage for everyone from James Blake to SBTRKT.

But before it became a mainstay in electronic music, two French DJ's appeared on the show in 1997, creating an Essential Mix that (in our book) surpasses all the others. Today, we can all revel in nearly two hours of dance music curated by Daft Punk, arguably the most respected music producers around.

Listening to classic jams like Armand Van Helden's “Funk Phenomena" (way before his Duck Sauce days) to Cajmere's "Only 4 U," the mix provides a firsthand look into the minds of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter circa 1997, the same year their debut Homework came out. Check out the tracklist below, and enjoy the next two-hours of jams hand-picked by house music's reigning champs.
