LOTUS-PLAZA-SPOOKY-ACTION

Everyone else who was shooting for that indie pop summer jam of 2012 crown, we’re sorry to say you’re going to have to start competing for “Participant” ribbons because Lotus Plaza’s “Monoliths” is honestly the windows-down wind-in-your-hair salt-sticky day-drunk jam-of-all-jams you’ve been waiting for since it was forty degrees outside for the first time and you thought it would be a good idea to wear shorts and a t-shirt. It’s Deerhunter’s introverted guitarist Lockett Pundt who does his appropriately-initialed solo work as Lotus Plaza, but you don’t have to be a fan of his day job to get into this song, what with those sunny guitar layers that build into a truly massive latter half the likes of which we’ve never seen from Pundt before. Spooky Action at a Distance, Lotus Plaza’s second full-length, is out now, and it’s awesome.
