"XSCAPE" is the title track from the latest posthumous Michael Jackson album, due out May 13 on Epic Records. The album will feature eight previously unheard songs mined from the vaults by the MJ Estate and then "contemporized" by the likes of L.A. Reid, Timbaland, StarGate and Rodney Jerkins. ?uestlove, Mary J. Blige and D'Angelo are all set to make guest appearances on the album.
"XSCAPE" was written by Jackson and Rodney Jerkins during the Invincible sessions, though it did not make the cut for the final studio album released while Jackson was still alive. It's notably the only song on the new collection that was worked by one of the producers tasked to "contemporize" these unused recordings. Like all Michael Jackson songs (even the discarded ones), "XSCAPE" is worth a listen.
Update: Epic Records confirms to Slate that the Tuesday night's leak is in fact old, and that the version of this song appearing on XSCAPE "sounds nothing" like the song playing above. So what you're hearing is what the song was before Rodney Jerkins got to "contemporize" it. Oh God, that makes more sense.
