Come to think of it, most of Mikky Ekko's big hits haven't really been anywhere near bubblegummy - he made his name helping out Rihanna on the gut-wrenching "Stay," and last summer's solo single "Kids" revolves around the folly of youth to do whatever they want. Now there's "Smile," which opens with the charmingly depressing line "Smile, the worst is yet to come," and continues with plenty of hands-in-the-air, throbbing bass. It's the perfect top-40-ready fist-pumper to compliment your postmodern ennui. Check it out.
