Every holiday season since 1988 has seen R.E.M. sending their fan club holiday treats – in the form of covers, live recordings, or brand new songs, on every medium from 7”s to splits with Radiohead on VHS tapes. In light of their recent disbanding, 2011 is the last year R.E.M. will drop a special holiday release – and you don’t have to be a fan club member to stream both tracks here now.

Though we didn’t get any original material from the band this holiday season, we’re super thankful anyway. R.E.M. deliver on fantastic, energetic live recordings of two older tracks in their extensive oeuvre – “Perfect Circle,” from their 1983 debut album Murmur, and “Life and How to Live It,” from their 1985 classic Fables of the Reconstruction. Check both out.
