There has been a shit ton of buzz surrounding The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart's follow up to their widely adored 2009 self-titled debut, which could have a lot to do with the fact that it's produced and mixed by Flood and Alan Moulder, respectively. If you recall, these are the same guys who helped design Mellon Collie and The Infinite Sadness, as well as records from Depeche Mode, PJ Harvey and Nine Inch Nails. Twenty seconds into “Belong,” the title track and second single from the album, you'll notice it sounds very little like the dreamy indie pop of their fateful debut and has more common with Smashing Pumpkins in their heyday, bolder and louder than Pains have ever been before. It's all quite startling, and a very stimulating direction the band is heading in.
Belong is out March 29th via Slumberland Records, and I get the feeling it's going to be huge.
