Franz Ferdinand Covers EP

For those who missed Record Store Day, or didn't get a chance to pick up a Covers EP of Franz Ferdinand cuts from their most recent Tonight, the amicable Domino Records is releasing it on 12” and CD. There are five tracks, including new renditions by LCD Soundsystem, Peaches, ESG, Stephen Merrit (of Magnetic Fields) and Debbie Harry.

They are all actually quite unique and original, each rendition differing greatly from its original counterpart. Due to the project's recent retirement LCD Soundsystem is probably the standout, adding a wad of synthesizers and disco beats to “Live Alone,” which was already dance friendly to begin. Veteran New York punkers ESG do an intense version of “What She Came For,” many thanks owed to vocalist Marie Scroggins. Canadian eccentric songstress Peaches covers “Turn It On,” a song so lyrically appropriate for her, it makes more sense coming from her than Alex Kapranos. Peaches transforms it into a nu-rave club banger, with mad electro solos and trippy sounds throughout. Get the EP when it comes out on May 2nd, for a preview check out the cut from Peaches below:
