INTERVIEW: Casxio

INTERVIEW: Casxio interviewPhoto by meik meik
So a few weeks ago, CMJ was happening, and we were all running around like dance crazed party girls. Now that the dust has more than officially settled, we can tell you that some pretty cool shit went down. We talked to some folks. We caught some shows.

One of the people we talked to was Lucas Guerin of electro funk rock band Casxio. Emerging on the scene quite effectively with their EP Seventeen (released on The Hours Entertainment records) the video for the single views like an ode to 80s minimalist serenades to love ala Crying Game. Complete with fog machine, laser lights and the lone female professing her unrequited desire for a certain androgynous individual, it’s brilliant, really.

Casxio played a bunch of CMJ dates and barely had time to breathe, but we managed to get a few questions in. Continue reading →

La Roux’s Elly Jackson Might Be Psychic

La Rouxs Elly Jackson Might Be Psychic feature

So, we’re (almost) pretty sure it’s not us, but Elly Jackson of La Roux fame seems to tend towards the short and sweet when asked a question. We guess she likes to keep it simple, and that’s cool, because we at least know we won’t be bored to tears with any long winded answers. You as the reader should be happy that not much of your time is going to be taken up reading this.

Also, we think she might be psychic. Just a little bit. She notes an eerie, unintentional prediction she made once that had us wondering. We know she’s a tease because a few of her short and sweet answers are a bit cheeky, as they say. Go ahead and take a look and see if you’re not even more intrigued than you were before going in over what this elusive and charismatic ginger pixie is all about.

Is she a fashion icon? A throwback to an era we dancing fiends find ourselves yearning to recapture in the music we listen to and the clothes we wear? Who’s she into and what does she do when she’s not on stage wowing us with her awesome? We tried to get these answers out of her and came out both grinning like idiots and scratching our heads. Read on: Continue reading →

Yes Giantess’ Jan Rosenfeld Wants You To Dance, Played with Little Boots in New York

Yes Giantess Jan Rosenfeld Wants You To Dance, Played with Little Boots in New York feature

PMA was at Little Boots’ Bowery show featuring Yes Giantess and The Plastiscines Wednesday. We got to talk to Jan Rosenfeld of Yes Giantess outside the venue standing in front of the JMZ Bowery station subway entrance. It was a short, five minute chat before the start of the show.

As you know, Yes Giantess (formerly just Giantess) are the four piece synthpop band from Boston that caught our attention after showing up in the pages of NME amid much praise. Jan’s the lead vocalist and songwriter of the group. We asked him to explain a few things about the band and he obliged. Below, we discuss everything from porn to Twitter. Jan enlightens us on the band’s influences, how they got hooked up with miss Boots herself, and their undying drive to get you kids dancing. Continue reading →

D.D.P. – PEOPLE I KNOW: PANCE PARTY

D.D.P. PEOPLE I KNOW: PANCE PARTY interview

Hello everyone, and welcome to the second installment of Dan’s Dance Party.  I would be Dan, and I’ll be showing up on your glowing rectangle every Thursday to make sure you have been, will be, and are currently breaking it down, with much gusto and vigor.  There’s slightly less caffeine in my bloodstream this week, so those readers who were too old or too tired to handle me last week might have a better shot – to the rest of you, rest assured, I’m just as amped about this week’s column.

Why am I amped, you ask?  Well, rhetorical device, I’ll tell you:  I’m super stoked because I’ve got an interview with electro up-and-comers PANCE PARTY, a face melting trio of dudes from the mean streets of San Francisco’s SOMA/Tenderloin neighborhood.  Seriously, mean streets – they once saw crackheads fucking on their apartment building’s doorstep, which explains a lot about their music (not really).  My own romance with PANCE PARTY started when I met Ben Swardlick, a.k.a Swardy (pronounced Swurd-ee), 1/3 of P.P. and a hell of a dancer, when we both attending UC Santa Barbara.  It has been my distinct pleasure to witness (from the left, in the photo) Andy, Eric & Swardy’s rise to power in the last year and a half, as they’ve ridden huge distortion and head-banging beats to the forefront of the new electro vanguard (doesn’t that sound fancy?).  After topping the Hypemachine charts with their remix of Chester French’s “She Loves Everybody,” PANCE PARTY is now seeking world domination with a brand-spanking-new remix of Felix Cartal’s “Skeleton” (download below!), and the three madmen are cackling maniacally while crafting their new original material.  Although I know PANCE PARTY as friends, I am 100% serious when I say that I like their music in and of itself, and would like it even if they turned out to be R.Kelly-type urine fetishists.  Without further ado, Dan’s Dance Party presents:
