The Antlers: Daytrotter Session

The Antlers: Daytrotter Session live musicBreathtaking and beautiful were the Antlers on the session Daytrotter posted yesterday. Chiefly singing tunes off their devastatingly raw album Hospice, the Antlers added depth to tracks through their live session — “Kettering,” Hospice’s heartbreaking first track, for example, carries a punch heavier than that found on the album.

When performing “Two,” ringleader Peter Silberman sings with surprising eagerness vis-à-vis the biting lyrical tension and the overwhelming sense of surrender and hopelessness. That, I believe, is a defining moment for the Antlers.

The Antlers: Daytrotter Session 10/30/09
1. Welcome To Daytrotter
2. Shiva (from Hospice)
3. Cold War (from Cold War EP)
4. Kettering (from Hospice)
5. Two (from Hospice)

Little Red – Coca Cola

Little Red Coca Cola bootlegs
Declaring themselves “Original Doo Wop Punk” Little Red has made it big in Australia and is now setting their sights on the rest of the world. Internationally debuting their single “Coca Cola,” they’re a fun and energetic group who truly capture the 50’s 60’s old fashioned Rock and Roll (think Beach Boys) complete with backing vocals that captures the innocence of that era.

They’re a cute band with even cuter lyrics, but you won’t find anything profound here. “My one and only advice/ Is cold coca cola and Ice” are sugary lyrics that give you an equally sugary high. It’s a super catchy song that even has a fun clapping part when the music drops out (I’m quite the sucker for clap alongs).

Little Red is releasing “Coca Cola” on a limited edition 7″ due out September 21st via Neon Gold. Their album Listen To Little Red will become available November 16th.

Chewy Chocolate Cookies have made another delicious remix, this time taking on Major Lazer’s summer jam, “Pon De Floor.”

Volcano Choir’s album leaked a few weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying it since. Expect a review up soon. In the meantime, give “Sleepymouth” a listen.

I Guess I’m Floating posted up a brand new song Panda Bear performed at last weekend’s All Tomorrow’s Parties Fest in New York. As of now, they are untitled. The first one is good (below), the second one is rather… boring (follow link to find it). GvsB also posted up Panda Bear’s entire setlist.

Radiohead Live in Prague 8/23/09, Bootleg

Radiohead Live in Prague 8/23/09, Bootleg bootlegs

We’ve never done live bootlegs here at PMA, but I figured I’d give it a try. Especially since a reader in Europe sent over this great rip of Radiohead’s performance in Prague a few days ago, recorded by Up from Nocna Hudba. From what I can tell, the show was typical live Radiohead: epic. Their 25-song setlist spanned all of my favorites, from Kid A classic, and one of my all-time favorite songs, “Idioteque” to fresh leaks like “These Are My Twisted Words.” Let me know if you’d like to see more bootlegs in the future.

The full setlist and download links are found after the jump. Continue reading →

Why I Can’t Wait For Kanye West and Lady GaGa’s Tour Dates Announcement

A couple of weeks ago, Kanye West and Lady GaGa announced that they are going on tour together. “Details are still sketchy, but West said, “She’s talented and so incredible that she’s not an opening act. We’re doing it together, with no opening act.” Perez Hilton says that Gaga and Yeezy will instead spend the entire show onstage performing together” according to Rolling Stone.

Watching Kanye and GaGa perform together on stage might just be the best thing ever. I love Kanye and his Glow in the Dark Tour was great, but going to see Lady GaGa live again is my biggest incentive for going. As far as I can tell, she knows how to put on a show! For years, Britney Spears (Oops!… I Did It Again, Slave 4 U) and Beyonce (Ring The Alarm) have been lauded for their electrifying live performances on award shows and on tour, but I haven’t seen anyone throw it down like Lady GaGa since Madonna herself.

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Season Finale (pt 1)

Ameri-kizzy I-dizzy. Adam v. Kris with a K. This… is American Idol!

I can’t believe that we’re at the end of the road! We’re in the Nokia Theatre, which is substantially larger than the hovel we’re used to and Seacrest immediately starts drawing images of acoustic rocker v. glam rocker, Conway v. California, the guy next door v. guyliner (no! Guyliner is on LOST). We see the judges; Randy is wearing polka dots, stripes, plaid, and all other types of patterns. Kara looks nice, Paula looks like she’s been sleeping in a tanning booth, and Si actually dressed up for the occasion. We welcome the finalists, and here they are. Continue reading →

Coldplay are still touring hard all around the world in support of their massive fourth album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends / Prospekt’s March, all the while preparing for ANOTHER album that is supposed to hit shelves later this year.

I guess Chris Martin is really trying to squeeze as much as he can from his band, because wasn’t it the blue-eyed Coldplay frontman who said, “I’m 31 now and I don’t think that bands should keep going past 33.” Either way, I’m excited at the chance to catch Coldplay live again — they’re truly fantastic. I’m equally excited to hear another album from the band in the upcoming months.

I guess a good middle-ground for the two is this new, free live EP that Coldplay has begun to hand out at their shows. For those not lucky enough to catch them live, the band is now giving the EP for free online. Coldplay are a bunch of stand-up guys, aren’t they? Continue reading →

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 7… Round 2.

A M E R I C A N I D O L . Here. We. Go!

Ryan recaps Matt’s survival on last week’s elimination, and reminds us that two are going home. With flames a plenty in the background, we zoom in on Ryan’s mug and “THIS… is American Idol!” Huzzah!

Ryan is on the stage in an extremely snappy suit. He’s lookin’ sharp and recapping all the crap he just recapped before the opening credits. He welcomes the judges, who all look like regular people tonight, and says hi to our top 7. Here they all come, looking chipper and ready for action.  Continue reading →
