American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 3

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 3 live music

Are we really down to the final 3? Ryan tells us that they became heroes in their home towns… blah, blah. The 3 are standing center stage looking stupid under 3 spotlights. This is all so dramatic… well, that’s because THIS… is American Idol. Hollah!

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 5 ELIMINATION

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 5 ELIMINATION live music

Judging montage, loads of dramatic footage, scary music, foot lights, and THIS… is American Idol!

Ryan welcomes us, taunts us with results and tells us that 47 million votes came in last night. We say hi to our judges (including Paula’s heaving bosoms who are begging to be released from their silky black prison), Simon tells us that everyone was great last night, and we’re off! American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 7… Round 2.

A M E R I C A N I D O L . Here. We. Go!

Ryan recaps Matt’s survival on last week’s elimination, and reminds us that two are going home. With flames a plenty in the background, we zoom in on Ryan’s mug and “THIS… is American Idol!” Huzzah!

Ryan is on the stage in an extremely snappy suit. He’s lookin’ sharp and recapping all the crap he just recapped before the opening credits. He welcomes the judges, who all look like regular people tonight, and says hi to our top 7. Here they all come, looking chipper and ready for action.  Continue reading →

Bat For Lashes – Use Somebody (Kings of Leon Cover)

Bat For Lashes Use Somebody (Kings of Leon Cover) covers
[rating:72/100]
PMA fave Bat For Lashes stopped by BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge not too long ago and delivered a beautiful cover of Only By The Night-highlight, “Use Somebody.” Bat For Lashes breathes new, minimalistic life into “Use Somebody.” Listening to Caleb’s voice on the original make me yearn for a duet between these two artists. Natasha Kahn’s butterly smooth vocals will simply melt alongside Caleb Followill’s powerful instrument.

In my honest opinion, no cover will best the Kings of Leon version — filled with a storm of lusty, longing vocals. Bat For Lashes’ cover is a great change of pace and is in no way a disservice to the song, but acts pretty well as a foil to the original.

Catch the cover and a bonus “lo-fi” version of Natasha’s amazing “Daniel,” all after the jump. Continue reading →

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 7

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 7 live music

Here we are. Same beginning, same Seacrest. Sounds like we’re doing “Music From the Movies” and Quentin Tarantino is our guest judge (he even says, “This… is American Idol).” How bad do I hope that somebody gets up there and whistles that haunting nurse whistle from Kill Bill Vol.1?  Continue reading →

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 8

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 8 live music

Okay, we’re opening just like we open every week. Ryan is telling us how the fate of the world is resting squarely on our shoulders, we pan the stoic faces of the final 8 contestants, and “THIS…. Is American Idol.”

Ryan talks about the jam-packed week we have before us (tonight’s show is only an hour long… thank goodness) and tells us our theme: “Songs that were popular the year you were born.” Hooray! Continue reading →

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 9

American Idol Recap: Season 8, Top 9 live music

Welcome back Idol fans. We’re down to the bottom 9, and right on cue, Ryan begins his introductory speech. As he speaks, the camera pans across the contestants and we’re treated to Scott’s hair who is doing what his pink pants did last week: Make him look insane. Allison looks like she and Scott started sharing hair people and her hair is doing its best Flock of Seagulls impression. Anoop has this crazy chain thing wrapping down his arm through a lapel on his shoulder, and I’m trying to figure out if that’s his rosary or maybe his wallet is attached. Anyway, the judges are announced, walk through the giant gate in the front of the stage (Paula is not wearing a tutu tonight, but she is still wearing a pink cocktail dress that looks like it was made for a 16 year old. Here we go! We’re on to the final 9! Continue reading →
