The xx – You’ve Got the Love (Jamie xx Rework / Florence and the Machine Cover)

The xx really are creating some great remixes, as well as great music, lately. The song wonderfully begins with an entrancing dream-like sequence followed by a beat which remains constant throughout the song. The duel vocal of the xx’s two leads then play off each other with a quiet, subtly confident delivery that goes over incredibly.

Silence fills after a simultaneously delivery of “Your love is real”. The song then explodes with Florence’s soulful back and forth denial and acceptance of “You know it’s real”. This entire 5 minute 44 second song perfectly grasps the emotional highs of love and is a great, highly recommended track.

Phoenix – Rome (Neighbors Remix ft. Devendra Benhart)

Who knew Devendra Benhart loved Phoenix? Not just loved but the ALL-CAPS kind. Just check this out:

“We LOVE and have LOVED Phoenix since Alphabetical, and have wanted to do more than just ogle at their awesomeness for quite some time. With the release of their luminary Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix we got the chance to un-floccinaucinihilipilificate our dreams and with awesome, oceanic glee, we took Rome for a ride…”

I sense a little Kanyeist (Kanyeatic? Kanyeistic?) passion there, don’t you? I guess you’d need something that flashy to stand out in a sea of star-studded remixes. How cool it must be for Phoenix to finally get the attention they have deserved all along. Not just by “the blogs” or teen dramas/late night TV, but by their peers. Maybe even people they look up to.

Devendra has now joined bands like Friendly Fires, Classixx, The Teenagers, Holy Ghost, and Gorilla vs Bear says that Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear might be covering Phoenix on some sort of re-release of Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. At least that’s what Rough Trade told Simon Pegg. Yeah, I know…

Now with thoughts of Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear recording covers of Phoenix, I will leave you with Devendra Benhart’s beautiful remix of “Rome”

The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name (RAC Remix), PMA Premiere

The Ting Tings Thats Not My Name (RAC Remix), PMA Premiere mp3

It’s no secret that my ears have a major crush on RAC’s remixes. This is PMA’s 13th post on André Allen Anjos’s Remix Artist Collective, so I figured it should be something special. Over the last few months, Andre and I have become GTalk buddies and he has shared a few remixes with me, and for record label-related reasons, I’m not allowed to share most of them. This Ting Tings remix, I’ve had since late May, and I am just now getting clearance to share it with everyone else.

This remix of “That’s Not My Name” is coming just in time for the single’s resurgence in the US, but for the rest of the radio-boycotting population, this remix will give us a fresh new way to look at a 2008 favorite.

Timid Tiger – Electric Island (Timid Tiger’s Wake The Dead Remix)

Pretty Much Amazing World Premiere

Timid Tiger Electric Island (Timid Tigers Wake The Dead Remix) mp3As promised, the Timid Tiger boys are back with a new album, Timid Tiger & The Electric Island due out on January 29th in their mother country, Germany. But before then Timid Tiger are releasing a four-track EP, named after the album’s first single, “Electric Island.” The EP will be available digitally on October 2nd and sold physically on tour.

Timid Tiger remixed the titular track for this EP, and Pretty Much Amazing is premiering it here and now. Timid Tiger transformed their cartoon-pop (you like that?) jam into an three parts electro-banger and one part space-y blues joint. After listening to their mash-up/remix skills on “Are You Gonna My Way” and now on “Electric Island,” my ears are telling me that these guys should start remixing more often.
