Pitchfork Music Festival Dates Announced

Pitchfork Music Festival Dates Announced headline shorties

Pitchfork, which has all but officially taken over the music world, has announced the dates for their annual music festival. They’re holding back the headliners, but here’s what we know for sure:

Pitchfork Music Fest is Chicago July 17-19. It’s taking place at Chicago’s Union Park, and the tickets go on sale on Friday, March 13. Are you already making arrangements to go? Or are you going to wait until the bands are announced? And if you went last year, was it a great festival?

“Rockville, CA”…Good Idea?

Rockville, CA...Good Idea? headline shorties

I’m not quite sure. Tons of cool independent bands have joined the lineup for O.C. creator Josh Schwartz’s new WB  internet-only soap, “Rockville, CA,” to be the house band for an episode at the show’s titular “venue.” Bands like:

The Little Ones, Phantom Planet, The Republic Tigers, White Lies, Lykke Li, The Duke Spirit, Kaiser Chiefs, Travis, Frightened Rabbit, The Kooks, Passion Pit, The Broken West, and Bishop Allen.

The web show’s description: Club Rockville is a place where a group of twentysomethings from diverse backgrounds gather regularly to hear their favorite up-and-coming bands, blow off steam, fall in love with the wrong people, and then talk about how they’ve fallen in love with the wrong people. The series not only explores characters’ interactions with one another, but also the way in which they relate to music and to Club Rockville itself.

The series looks incredibly corny judging from the promo…but since it’s just an online series, and since the band lineup is so impressive, I’m coming around to the idea. Besides, cheesy teen soaps are fun. My question is whether we will be seeing new, live performances or just the bands singing to prerecorded tracks.

The “Arrested Development” Movie Is Happening?

The Arrested Development Movie Is Happening? headline shorties

After months (years?) of speculation, and after tons of rumors about Michael Cera’s holdout from the “Arrested” movie, it seems that the young, awkward actor has finally agreed. E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos broke the news:

“Inside sources close to the negotiations of the upcoming Arrested Development movie tell me that … Cera has finally agreed to do the feature film project.”

She also says that the movie may be filmed by the end of the year if all goes according to plan- great news for fans of the show…all 49 of them.

Just kidding- the “Arrested Development” fan base has only grown since the show has been off the air, and it will continue to grow. I can’t wait for this sure-to-be-hysterical movie. You? (Via Cinematical)

“Tonight Show” News- Andy Richter, Sidekick Once More!

Tonight Show News Andy Richter, Sidekick Once More! headline shorties

They’re back together!

Andy Richter must have had a REALLY fun time on Conan’s final Late Show the other night- he has decided to re-team up with the funny-haired funnyman for the new Tonight Show! This is great news…Richter was awesome on Chuck the other night and he will surely be awesome again on this. Letterman’s going to have a run for his money…Conan is a better match than Leno as a nemesis- Leno has too much mass appeal. To watch two smart funnymen go up against each other will be great…the question now is- which one to watch? But in the DVR age, who cares?

Flo-Rida’s Single Spins “Right Round” To Top Charts

Flo Ridas Single Spins Right Round To Top Charts charts music

Flo-Rida (Florida, when said really fast without the dash) has broken his own record of weekly digital downloads with his latest, “Right Round,” a take on Dead Or Alive’s 1985 hit, “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).” Well, to be fair, Eminem broke his record first, with last week’s “Crack A Bottle” topping the sales for “Low.” But “Bottle” didn’t come near the download monster that is “Right Round,” which sold 636,000 units. The White Stripes will be playing Conan’s final “Late Night,” before he takes over for Jay Leno for good on the “Tonight Show.” Thanks for the great pic, Pitchfork.

The band and the funny guy have a great history with each other- they’ve been on the show twice to promote their albums, and he’s been in one of their music videos! Check it out below, it’s a classic vid, directed by the fantastic Michael Gondry. So before Conan takes over Leno’s “Tonight Show” spot, make sure to catch the Stripes play his last “Late Show” on February 20th.

In other late-night television news, U2 will be David Letterman’s in-house residents for an unprecedented FIVE nights: March 2-6, to promote No Line on the Horizon, which drops March 3rd.

I’m a big “Get On Your Boots” fan, how optimistic are you about Bono’s new material?
