The Best Pop Songs of the 2000s

I was thinking about this a lot the other night, and I think its time to being the great debate of the Best Pop Song of the 00s over to PMA. Before everyone starts mouthing off some obscure Scandinavian pop songs, here are a few rules.

1. The song had to have achieved notoriety from 2000-present.
2. It pains me to say this, but the song has to have been a nationwide (or worldwide) hit. The bigger, the better, in most cases.

Why? Because pop music is supposed to be universal. Everyone is supposed to enjoy it and love it and everyone can’t love something if they’ve never heard it before. Simple as that.

3. Only one song per artist. Pick their best single, if that helps.

I have a few submissions in mind. Read on to find out Continue reading →

Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 2.28.09

Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 2.28.09 mp3

Ha… yeah, that’s a Cobra Snake pic on PMA. **Cherry Popping Sound**

I’ve been ignoring posting most remixes in favor of artists who demand more hype than they’ve been getting, and I will continue to do so, but I thought that now that it’s officially the weekend and that most of you are heading out to some party soon, you might want to grab a few of these. Oh and I understand that it’s already past 9pm on the EAST COAST! My bad! I will make sure to post the next Saturday Night Party Music Planner a bit earlier!

Anyway, let’s start off with an incredible remix of Eminem’s infuriatingly catchy “Crack A Bottle,” yeah? Cool… Continue reading →

Q&A Friday: Which Fourth Quarter Release Are You Most Excited About?

This week’s Q&A Friday is brought to you by Starbucks Chocolate! If you answer the questsion, you are entering yourself to win a Starbucks Chocolate Gift Package! Remember to enter your name and email address in the given fields.

2008’s album sales have been anything but great, despite this year’s big releases, like Lil Wayne’s The Carter III. But, as usual, the fourth quarter of the year is filled with some blockbuster gems. We’ve already seen what affect high-profile, old-school rockers like AC/DC (784,000 sold in first week) and Metallica (sold 490,000 in 3 days) had on the fourth-quarter album charts. It doesnt end there, with releases by Beyonce, The Killers, Kanye West, and Britney Spears this winter, we’re in for one hell of a finale for music in 2008.

Here’s a release guide for the fourth quarter most exciting albums. Continue reading →

New Justice – We Are Your Friends (Disco Villains remix)

New Justice We Are Your Friends (Disco Villains remix) mp3

The blogosphere may be starving for new Justice material, but the remixes keep acomin’. I’m trying to refrain from posting every single one — but that Datsu remix was all the rage, and you know it. And now we have a remix worthy of its predecessor. Disco Villains haven’t been properly introduced here at Pretty Much Amazing, and I don’t know why. Must have slipped my mind. Better late than never, right?

I hear that there’s no introduction like a Justice introduction.

Listen/Download Justice’s “We Are Your Friends” remixed and reimagined by Disco Villains — it’s a fucking convulsive mess; and I mean that in a good way. Continue reading →

Ivy League and Rich Kids are Synonymous

This Is Ivy League

Pretty Much Amazing’s Listening Booth is where we get to talk about our favorite new songs! Yay!

This Is Ivy League – The Richest Kids
Is this music or is this a mere exploitation of a hyped demographic *cough* Vampire Weekend *cough*? I’m glad to say, this is music. Real. Good. Music.

Wyclef Jean – Fast Car (remix feat. Lupe Fiasco)
At first, I thought this was just a new Lupe Fiasco track. Warning to those who want to add Cool Youg Lou to your remix team: He’s a verse hogger.

G-Unit – Grimey
In this new track from the upcoming G-Unit mixtape, 50 Cent confesses to being dirty, grimy, and filthy, but doesn’t go on to admit himself as a tired MC.

R. Kelly – Hairbraider

Obviously seeking to put claims about his kinky eccentricities to rest, R. Kelly has written this song about the qualities he looks for in a good hairdresser (chief among them: superior stripping ability).

And now moving onto our daily downloads. These are free and legal. So download away.

Justin Timberlake Remixed

Justin Timberlake Remixed mp3

After his sophomore album FutureSex/LoveSounds sold over 7 million copies world wide, Justin Timberlake is doing what every other superstar does once he realizes it has been long enough since his album released that people will buy it again if it had a few new tracks. “New”, of course, is used with all the laxness one could muster. The undiscerning fan will receive 3 wonderful remixes of some true Justin classics that will keep them content until his next release.

Craig David Samples David Bowie on ‘Hot Stuff’

Craig David Samples David Bowie on Hot Stuff mp3It would be a cold-hearted individual who didn’t feel a little bit sorry for Craig David. The guy went from the ‘Next Big Thing’ to a public laughing stock in the blink of an eye. It looked for a while like the funny-haired garage sensation was going to be forced to spend the rest of his life being mocked with cat-calls of ‘Where’s Kes?’ and ‘Craaaaaaig David’ while working down his local Pizza Hut in Southampton. But fear not, fans of the beanie hat-wearing slicker-than-the-average popster, because he’s back. And blow us if he hasn’t got a hit on his hands.

OK, we admit the main reason this tune’s got us flexing our limbs around the dancefloor is the stupendous David Bowie ‘Let’s Dance’ sample. But hey, if Kanye West is allowed to nick his beats from forgotten ’80s gems, why can’t our Craig? And yes, there is an unfortunate breakdown, where Craig slips in one of his trademark croons that leaves your bum-cheeks clenching for dear life, but if you can sit through that, you’ll find yourself nodding along to what should be his biggest hit since ‘Seven Days’. It’s almost enough to make you forgot about his big plastic face on Bo Selecta . Almost. (AF)

Kanye West Sets ‘Flashing Lights’ as Fourth Single

Kanye West Sets Flashing Lights as Fourth Single mp3
It’s official, Kanye’s fourth single off of Graduation will be “Flashing Lights”. An excellent choice, but I was sure he’d release “Homecoming” by now, it seems to be manufactured for Urban Radio. Well, I guess anything this guy does will be blasted for months. “Flashing Light”, next to “Drunk And Hot Girls” has to be the most experimental song hailing from the set. The synthesizers work well and over all its extremely enjoyable. Here are two great remixes, I’m sure you’ll appreciate them.
