Gossip Girl’s music selection for its third season is finally getting interesting. Last night’s star-studded episode (insert: read NY Mag’s hilarious and inspired GG recaps every Tuesday morning), was the season’s most interesting, musically and otherwise.

As always, Gossip Girl played a handful of tracks by small bands you probably never heard of, but Alex Pastavas always keeps a goodie for the Gossip Girl’s closing monologue (which was awfully good last night).

Last week they closed with Miike Snow’s “Animal,” in a cutesy scene, and but this week they turned to Passion Pit’s “Moth’s Wings” in a plot-relevant scene. I’m more impressed by Pastavas’ decision to license “Moth’s Wings” (over other delectable Passion Pit cuts like “Little Secrets” or “The Reeling”) than the actual use of the track.
