Baltimore DJ/producer/rapper put it upon himself to remix Amanda Blank’s ultra catchy first single, “Might Like You Better.” Unfortunately, Blaqstarr’s remix chops the song’s balls right off.
It’s less dance floor friendly, for sure but it works real nice as a throwback, chillout track.

Amanda Blank has been a guilty pleasure of mine for a hot minute now. Her debut album, I Love You hit stores the other week; I picked it up last night to make sure I know some songs before I go to her in store performance at Amoeba Records in Los Angeles later tonight (7pm 6pm). The album is decent overall, but this track, I liked a lot.
“DJ” is has this sick throwback beat that hardly belongs in the club, though I smell a handful of great remixes in the near future. This song features a side of Amanda Blank that doesn’t come out often. Even her mushier songs, like “A Love Song” lose whatever charm they managed to grab onto after a couple of listens — but “DJ” sounds like a keeper. Listen to it here Continue reading →

Every now and then, out of pure frustration and exhaustion comes an idea that is unique and inspiring. I’d like to introduce you to the lovely 823KEYPROJECT. It is pretty simple, after giving a friend of his who was having a tough time a skeleton key necklace he made, offering the well known catch phrase, “when one door closes, another opens,” Trevor Hubbard thought everyone could use a key. 823KEYPROJECT launched two weeks later as a way for 823 people to purchase vintage, one of a kind, skeleton key neckpieces. To date, the 823keyproject has done nothing but spread the word to friends and watch it grow. 259 keys have been sold in 8 countries in just about 5 months.
The money goes into a fund and when the last key is sold, the fund is unlocked and up to $25,000 in grant money is available for artists to apply. Applying artists can be from any medium, discipline, background. This process will be repeated 26 times or as many letters there are in the alphabet. When Trevor began the project his goal was to bring together 823 people and the work of many enterprising artists of a common pulse, a thread that links the contribution and purchases of many to the creation of one vision for a better world and community through almost any medium or vision.

Amanda Blank’s debut album I Love You may have been pushed back AGAIN (or maybe it comes out next week… I can’t seem to confirm this?), but Amanda has been around for years. In collaborations with M.I.A., Diplo, Santigold, N.A.S.A., Spank Rock, Ghostface Killah, Amanda Blank is put her swagger face on and has shown true talent and undeniable charisma.
“A Love Song,” a new track from her upcoming album, is basically an extended cut of Diplo’s remix of Santigold’s “I’m A Lady” from the great Top Ranking mixtape. Personally, that “I’m A Lady” remix was my favorite song from the mixtape so this extended cut comes as a pleasant surprise. Christmas morning, actually.
