Flo-Rida (Florida, when said really fast without the dash) has broken his own record of weekly digital downloads with his latest, “Right Round,” a take on Dead Or Alive’s 1985 hit, “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record).” Well, to be fair, Eminem broke his record first, with last week’s “Crack A Bottle” topping the sales for “Low.” But “Bottle” didn’t come near the download monster that is “Right Round,” which sold 636,000 units. Kelly Clarkson Breaks Records with “My Life Would Suck Without You”

When I first heard Kelly Clarkson’s “My Life Would Suck Without You,” I wasn’t really feeling it. Embarrassingly, that has changed — like complete 180, people. And I blame Dr. Luke! That guy has a knack of writting THE MOST infectuous pop tunes (Kelly’s “Since U Been Gone,” Britney’s “Circus,” and Katy Perry’s “I Kissed A Girl”). I guess, more than anything, I was upset with the musical direction Kelly was begining to take… I sort of expected a Pink-ish return (a la “Sober” or “Who Knew”). But why should I have expected a Pink copycat? A Nickelback copycat Something semi-original works fine.

Maybe it works more than fine, because “My Life” has done something a pop-juggernaut like “Since U Been Gone” has never been able to do: go No. 1. Continue reading →
