pmaCAST #3 – The “Best Remixes of 2008″ Episode

pmaCAST #2 (ft. Gnarls Barkley, Amy Winehouse, Arcade Fire, Coldplay, TV on the Radio, and more) mp3

Alright, a lot of you left comments and emails asking me to podcast this years Best Remixes list, so here you have it. This is probably the only time I will have an episode of the pmaCAST be 100% remix. I know you have to be in a certain mood to listen to a remix, so I tend to steer clear from those in podcasts. Whatever the case, let me know how/if you like your remixes on your podcasts.

Not much so say here, refer to my Best Remixes of 2008 list for more on why I chose the remixes that I did. Enjoy your almost-an-entire hour of pmaCAST. A less danceable podcast is to come in a few days. I’m already almost done with it.

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 5

Gossip Girl Music trumps 90210’s music for 3 weeks straight.

I know the second season of Chuck has officially started — but I don’t think I’ll include it in the Music Showdown. So far, Chuck seems to be having some strange, twisted love affair with Huey Lewis — something I’m not really sure I approve of. Though Chuck is an excellent show; it’s witty and pretty action packed. I recommend it to everyone.

But now on to Gossip Girl! Everyone who watches knows how essential music is to Gossip Girl. This episode features six songs, structured brilliantly and fit the scenes and emotions to a tee. Again, Gossip Girl fans show their loyalty and openness to new (almost obscure) music — Lady GaGa’s “Poker Face” has on iTunes Top 100 for over a week now. They Music Supervisors also through in some exquisite faux-Frenchie tunes by Nous Non Plus for their sexy Fashion Week show.

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 5 mp3

Gossip Girl - The Serena Also Rises
Lady GaGa – Poker Face
The Republic Tigers – Made Concrete
Conor Oberst – NYC Gone Gone
Duke Spirit – This Ship Was Built To Last
Phantom Planet – Raise The Dead
Nous Non Plus – Fille Atomique **Youtube link –could not find an mp3 anywhere?! it must have somehow escaped my hard drive!**

90210’s fifth episode has a fascinating music lineup and, hopefully, won’t be overshadowed by Gossip Girls’ charms. 90210 has been consistantly diverse — though maybe a tiny bit outdated. Many will note that Gossip Girl has previously played some of the same songs (”L.E.S. Artistes, I’m Not Gonna…), but 90210’s current playlist is flawless nonetheless.

Gossip Girl vs 90210 Music Showdown: Episode 5 mp3
90210 – Wide Awake and Dreaming
Greg Laswell – How The Day Sounds
Lykke Li – Little Bit
Annalee Ferry & Melissa Ritter – The One
Black Kids – I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance With You
Emiliana Torrini – Birds
Santogold – L.E.S. Artistes
Collective Soul – Hollywood

Personally, I’m going with 90210. Gossip Girl has been considerably popular here, but 90210 has definitely proven itself with this playlist. Now it’s your turn to vote:

NME’s 25 Bands Making America Cool Again

NMEs 25 Bands Making America Cool Again interesting reads

Woo hoo! I’m definitely glad NME released this list. For a second I was starting to get consumed by British/foreign music. It’s cool to know that America is cool again. Here’s what the press release regarding the new NME issue said.

As the USA steals itself for a new president this year, it seems the country is also undergoing something of a musical revolution. In its latest issue “We [Love] USA” iconic British music magazine NME, celebrates the 25 American acts who are whipping up a storm on both sides of the Atlantic — signalling the re-birth of the US music scene!

Alex Miller, New Bands Editor for NME said: “Right now I can barely go a day without coming across a new genius band from the States. While the art scene of Brooklyn or the punks of LA are keeping the underground fascinating, the ceaseless ambitions of Lil Wayne and the Kings Of Leon are making the Chili Pepper and Fiddy Cent clichés of the mainstream redundant. If only it wasn’t so bloody hard to get a green card!”

Obviously Vampire Weekend are leading the cool cats in their lives’ most important task yet — making the American music scene cool again. As already mentioned, Weezy and Kings of Leon are are to support the Ivy League-ers in the battle.

Here are NME’s 25 Bands Making America Cool Again (w/ a few remixes)
