823KEYPROJECT: A Community of Reverie

823KEYPROJECT: A Community of Reverie feature
Dear Pretty Much Amazing readers: A message from The Confluence. Read on for a remix goodie-bag.

Every now and then, out of pure frustration and exhaustion comes an idea that is unique and inspiring. I’d like to introduce you to the lovely 823KEYPROJECT. It is pretty simple, after giving a friend of his who was having a tough time a skeleton key necklace he made, offering the well known catch phrase, “when one door closes, another opens,” Trevor Hubbard thought everyone could use a key. 823KEYPROJECT launched two weeks later as a way for 823 people to purchase vintage, one of a kind, skeleton key neckpieces. To date, the 823keyproject has done nothing but spread the word to friends and watch it grow. 259 keys have been sold in 8 countries in just about 5 months.

The money goes into a fund and when the last key is sold, the fund is unlocked and up to $25,000 in grant money is available for artists to apply. Applying artists can be from any medium, discipline, background. This process will be repeated 26 times or as many letters there are in the alphabet. When Trevor began the project his goal was to bring together 823 people and the work of many enterprising artists of a common pulse, a thread that links the contribution and purchases of many to the creation of one vision for a better world and community through almost any medium or vision.

This is how it breaks down. Continue reading →

The Best Pop Songs of the 2000s

I was thinking about this a lot the other night, and I think its time to being the great debate of the Best Pop Song of the 00s over to PMA. Before everyone starts mouthing off some obscure Scandinavian pop songs, here are a few rules.

1. The song had to have achieved notoriety from 2000-present.
2. It pains me to say this, but the song has to have been a nationwide (or worldwide) hit. The bigger, the better, in most cases.

Why? Because pop music is supposed to be universal. Everyone is supposed to enjoy it and love it and everyone can’t love something if they’ve never heard it before. Simple as that.

3. Only one song per artist. Pick their best single, if that helps.

I have a few submissions in mind. Read on to find out Continue reading →

Weird Tapes Remixes Britney Spears, If U Seek Amy/Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Heads Will Roll

Weird Tapes Remixes Britney Spears, If U Seek Amy/Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Heads Will Roll mp3
If U Seek Amy (Weird Tapes Remix)

It’s a good muffled remix that picks up in the middle, but the fun and energy of the original seem to get lost in this translation.

Though Britney’s own melodic double entendre doesn’t come in until about mid-way through the song, the robotic “Fuck Me, Fuck Me” voice makes some much needed extra appearances in this version.

Heads Will Roll (Weird Tapes Remix)

Karen O’s vocals are much more prominently featured on the Heads Will Roll Remix than Britney’s was on the If U Seek Amy Remix and this remix is much more likely to garner repeat listens but again, you find yourself missing the energy and fun of the original.

Out of the two though, this one is hands down the keeper. Grab them both after the jump Continue reading →

Franz Ferdinand – Womanizer (Britney Spears Cover)

Franz Ferdinand Womanizer (Britney Spears Cover) covers
The boys recently performed their terrific single “No You Girls” on BBC Radio 1, along with a cover of Britney Spears’ “Womanizer.” I’d like to pretend that they were responding my to call for Womanizer Covers. Why else would they do it? Maybe because they think “It’s been the best song out in the last few months.”

Can people start covering “If U Seek Amy” now?

Remix-A-Day: Britney Spears – If U Seek Amy (Crookers Remix)

Because we are focusing more on upcoming musical releases around here, new remixes get the short end of the PMA stick, sadly. I am determined to devote one post a day on new remixes, instead of bunching 10+ remixes in bulk. That has become somewhat tacky. Click here to read all of our Remix-A-Day remixes.

Remix A Day: Britney Spears If U Seek Amy (Crookers Remix) mp3Giving it up to Britney Spears’ label for getting some of the buzziest producers/DJs to remix her tracks! First she had Justice remix her collab with Madonna, “Me Against The Music,” and more recently, Villains and Diplo both remixed the hell out of “Circus.” Add Crookers to the list and their remix of Britney’s “If U Seek Amy.” To be honest, it’s sort of a hot mess. I think Stoney Roads puts it best: “I’m kinda digging it, think people have to remember its a fun track for fun people. Most Likely your drunk and off your face when you hear it and to be honest… it sounds like the best thing you have heard in your life!” Seriously, just wait till you hear it in da club.

Download it + other girl remixes after the jump Continue reading →

Quickies: Britney Spears – If U Seek Amy Music Video + YYYs Bonus Tracks

I’ve been sick for the last couple of days and it’s been pretty tough of me trying to keep my posting up (I haven’t). So to make up for that, here is a pithy post of some of my favorite things that hit the internet these last few days.

Britney Spears – If U Seek Amy Music Video

Britney Spears announced that the third single off Circus would be the controversial “If U Seek Amy.” The joke is old by now, can we go to calling it “F.U.C.K. Me” now? Radio gives us a big, fat NO. Britney’s new single is doing great on radio, already sitting at No. 26 in the Top 40 charts (”Circus” is still sitting at No. 2), only that it’s “If You SEE Amy” that’s playing. Oh well. Here’s the video:

So what do you want to talk about first? How endless Britney’s cleavage is? Did you spot the notorious nipple slip? (I didn’t). Or how great she looks all skanked out? Or what about Amy’s hair? What’s going on there?

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Clap Song / Faces

Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 3.07.09

Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 3.07.09 listen

So last week’s Saturday Night Nite Party Music Planner was very well received and it has inspired me to do another. It’s important to acknowledge that not all Saturday Nite parties are blasting remixes like electro-fiends. Thus, this week isn’t all about the hot remixes, like the previous Planner, but I’m zero-ing in on funky-fun synthpop.

As limiting as you might think it is, synthpop leaves your playlist wide open to a plethora of sounds. Some choices are obvious: MGMT; the first 5 tracks of Hot Fuss. There are also new acts breaking out that can inflate your playlist: La Roux; Empire of the Sun. Then there are the internet classics: Ladytron; The Knife (I suppose MGMT’s transcending presence can easily be categorized here too). And lastly, the real classics: Kraftwerk; Pet Shop Boys. I won’t get too involved or theoretical with “synthpop.” It would soil the point of this post in the first place — to help you come up with a kick ass Saturday Nite Party Playlist. Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 2.28.09

Saturday Nite Party Music Planner 2.28.09 mp3

Ha… yeah, that’s a Cobra Snake pic on PMA. **Cherry Popping Sound**

I’ve been ignoring posting most remixes in favor of artists who demand more hype than they’ve been getting, and I will continue to do so, but I thought that now that it’s officially the weekend and that most of you are heading out to some party soon, you might want to grab a few of these. Oh and I understand that it’s already past 9pm on the EAST COAST! My bad! I will make sure to post the next Saturday Night Party Music Planner a bit earlier!

Anyway, let’s start off with an incredible remix of Eminem’s infuriatingly catchy “Crack A Bottle,” yeah? Cool… Continue reading →

Britney Spears “Circus” Officially Remixed + N.A.S.A., Mr. Oizo too

Britney Spears Circus Officially Remixed + N.A.S.A., Mr. Oizo too listen

Britney Spears – Circus (Villains Remix) / N.A.S.A. feat. M.I.A., Santogold, and Spankrock – Whatchadoin (Villains Remix)

I guess those remixes Diplo made for Britney’s “Circus” weren’t as officially as they were rumored to be. I guess it works out for the best — Villains’ remix of “Circus” is much more Saturday-Night-radio friendly and would fill up any dancefloor in a second. I’m definitely putting this one into my next party mix. While I’m at it, maybe I should add Villains remix of N.A.S.A.’s “Whatchudoin?” Listen to both after the jump Continue reading →
